The 17th International Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics (SOPO 2026) will be held from August 11 to 13, 2026 in Kunming, China. SOPO 2026 is co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, Spectral Branch of Jilin Provincial Society for Analysis and Testing Technology and other institutions.SOPO is an annual conference in China since 2009. It was held in Wuhan, Chengdu, Shanghai, Suzhou, Xi’an, Beijing, Guilin, Sanya, Xiamen and Kunming from 2009 to 2025. Each year there are 100 - 200 attendees from Asia, Europe, America, etc., and there have been quite a lot of well known experts giving plenary speeches. In 2026, SOPO will be held from August 11 to 13 in Kunming, China. It dedicates to facilitating the global development of Photonics and Optoelectronics and exploring ways in which the latest research results can be shared. Kunming, also known as Yunnan-Fu, is the capital and largest city of Yunnan province, China. It is the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's biggest corporations are based in the city. The city was of great significance during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. In the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. As of 2020 census, Kunming had a total population of 8,460,088 inhabitants, of whom 5,604,310 lived in its built-up (or metro) area made of all urban districts but Jinning, not conurbated yet. It is at the northern edge of Dian Lake, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes. We're looking forward to seeing you in Kunming!
