An effective asset integrity management programme is a prerequisite for the continued safe and profitable operation of any oil and gas company in upstream drilling and production operations all the way through the cycle to the downstream petrochemical processing plants. The importance of the issues in asset integrity management cannot go overlooked as oversight as these areas hold the potential for major incidents causing safety, environmental, and fiscal risks. The need to enhance asset integrity and extend the lifecycle of these aging facilities becomes imperative to survive this storm of low oil prices. The dramatic changes in oil prices have had a profound effect on the way our industry will do business in the coming years. Digitisation is a key enabler in bringing about a paradigm shift in asset integrity management thereby increasing efficiency and make permanent reduction in costs. The new technologies such as big data, industrial internet of things (IIoT) have great potential in changing the landscape of how we manage asset integrity. The gain from this automation can result in reduction of unplanned downtime, risk based approach on maintenance and inspection, reduction in OPEX costs and increased efficiency in reporting.
