The careful balance between lecture topics and hands-on lessons in this course is ideally suited to provide the techniques and applications of the treatment known as Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), which was developed by Emil Vodder, Ph.D.This 5-day, 40-hour course is focused to expose therapists, such as Massage Therapists, Cosmetologists, Estheticians, Physical Therapists and PTA’s, Occupational Therapists and COTA’s, Registered Nurses and LPN’s to the basic MLD (Vodder) techniques and its application.This course will also assist you in developing treatment sequences for the management of edema of various geneses including post traumatic and post-surgical edema; as well as several pathologies such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines, chronic pain reduction and others.During this course, the participants will learn to perform techniques that will assist patients and clients in general relaxation, health support and detoxification.Subjects Covered: • History of the lymphatic system and MLD• Basic anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system• Drainage pathways of the lymphatic system• Pathophysiology of the lymphatic system• Lymphatic insufficiencies and conditions that lead to the development of edema• Difference between edema and lymphedema• Indications and contraindications of MLD• Basic strokes and effects of MLD• Application of basic MLD sequences in healthy lymphatic systems• Application of basic MLD to post-traumatic and post-surgical edema• Application of basic MLD sequences to various pathologies (fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome) Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to:• Understand the terminology and explain the functions of the lymphatic anatomy• Explain the normal physiological principles and insufficiencies of the lymphatic system• Demonstrate an understanding of the development of edema in a healthy lymphatic environment• Distinguish between edema and lymphedema• Know the effects of MLD and demonstrate an understanding of its indications• Understand the medical contraindications of MLD and why MLD should be used with caution in certain conditions• Demonstrate sufficiency in the application of MLD, and understand treatment sequences of Vodder-style MLD techniques on all areas of the body• Integrate the theory into a practical experience by applying MLD to all parts of the body with an intact lymphatic system• Develop various treatment sequences for the management of post-surgical, post-traumatic edema, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines and chronic pain reduction.
