Memo

The 27th annual meeting of the German Society for Radiation Oncology takes place under the motto "Digital and Communicative" and offers the opportunity to discuss all aspects that are important for the development of radiation oncology and thus to achieve a broad exchange of knowledge. From June 24th to 26th, 2021, you will be able to shine a light on current developments in our field live with our experts and be there from afar. In a tried and tested way, the program is also intended to reach and actively involve all professional groups in radiation therapy, radiation biology and medical physics in a virtual format: Radiation oncology is experiencing a great change. In particular through new and further developments in imaging in high-precision radiation therapy and through new biological approaches such as immunotherapy, modern radiation oncology is already making an essential and indispensable contribution to personalized and individualized cancer medicine. This makes it possible to further improve treatment for many patients through a better treatment response and, above all, fewer side effects. The world of work is also constantly changing for the treating radiation oncologist. Digitization, automation, the use of artificial intelligence and ever shorter innovation cycles represent major challenges. These require completely new measures in everyday life, for example in training. As an interprofessional team, we particularly benefit from our strengths and experience in integrating innovations quickly into daily care and at the same time guaranteeing the highest quality and close patient relationship. Not only oncology, but also society and people are changing. We will only be able to cope with current and future challenges if we succeed in attracting and retaining the best young talents in medicine, radiographers, medical physics, radiation biology, IT and nursing. We would like to discuss these current topics with you. We hope that, despite all the restrictions, we can put together an exciting virtual program for you and that many of you will take advantage of this offer.
