Memo

It is widely agreed that responding to climate change involves mitigating the consequences by reducing the levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, and simultaneously adapting to the changes in our climate. Current global policies and the reductions in emissions they will result in are still projected to lead to 3°C warming above pre-industrial levels. Join our panel during London Climate Action Week to discuss a world that's three degrees warmer and what that means for the UK, as well as how we can mitigate and adapt in response. We will highlight examples of organisations and communities in the UK who are leading the way in making these changes. Our speakersKathryn Brown is the Head of Adaptation at the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), and leads the secretariat that supports the Adaptation Committee. Kathryn has worked on climate change policy and evidence for 15 years. Prior to moving to the CCC, she spent 10 years at Defra working on international negotiations, adaptation evidence and carbon budgets. Professor Harriet Bulkeley form the University of Durham is currently Project Co-ordinator for the H2020 Smart Cities and Communities programme NATURVATION project. Harriet's work is concerned with the politics and governance of environmental issues. She has a particular interest in climate change and the roles of cities and other non-state actors in responding to this global challenge. Dr Katherine Drayson is Principal City Planner (Environment) at Transport for London, working on green infrastructure, biodiversity and climate change adaptation. Formerly a member of the GLA's Environment team, focused on the development and production of the groundbreaking London Environment Strategy, as well as managing green infrastructure and climate change adaptation projects and programmes. Emma Howard Boyd is the Chair of the Environment Agency, an Ex officio board member of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and has recently been appointed as the UK Commissioner to the Global Commission on Adaptation. Chaired by BBC journalist, Martine Croxall.
