Cafs has a long history of helping families and children through difficult times, and is pleased to now be able to offer an exciting and unique professional development opportunity to help those who help others. Many of us who work with young people and families have seen first-hand the devastating effects of early childhood maltreatment on all aspects of development and decades of research in the neurosciences has helped to articulate what is often collectively referred to as "complex trauma". The "Get Grounded" Cafs Care Farm Symposium aims to help people think outside the box when it comes to helping people who have experienced the impact of complex trauma and attachment disruption. The symposium represents a merging of theory and practice from the disciplines of psychology and occupational therapy, and will introduce creative and compassionate approaches to supporting recovery and post-traumatic growth via the ancient practice of farming. As Cafs ventures into the development of its own therapeutic "Care Farm" we are pleased to be able to invite other professionals on our journey as we learn, grow, and heal though connection with animals, nature, and each other. The Get Grounded Symposium will offer not only an in depth discussion of the theory underpinning this innovative approach to therapy, but will dig deeper to provide participants with an immersive learning experience with our skilled presenters who will demonstrate the application of practical strategies that participants can take away and use with their own clients.
